چکیده

Design, simulation and measurement results of the integrated compact up-converter MMICs (microwave monolithic integrated circuits) are presented and discussed. The design is performed to achieve low cost and high performance transmitter system for the Ka-band frequency applications. It is designed using antiparallel diode pair sub-harmonic single sideband mixer and three stage RF (radio frequency) amplifier. Microstrip lines and lumped elements are used together to achieve a compact chip size. The layouts of the circuits are designed with careful EM (electromagnetic) simulations to avoid inter-component couplings and effect of the microstrip bending discontinuities. The chip is operated for the wide bandwidth of the RF frequency from 22–38GHz. Due to sub-harmonic mixing the required local oscillator frequency (LO) is reduced to half (10–19 GHz) to that of the RF frequency. The conversion gain of the chip is 9– 15 dB and P−1 dB output power is 7–12 dBm. The single sideband and anti-parallel diode pair suppress the in-band unwanted sideband and second harmonic of the local oscillator (2LO), respectively. The suppression of sideband and 2LO signals is typically 20–35 dB and 20– 30 dB, respectively. The size of the chip is as compact as 4.2 mm2 on a 100 μm-thick GaAs substrate.

A Compact LTCC-Based Ku-Band Transmitter Module

In this paper, we present design, implementation, and measurement of a three-dimensional (3-D)-deployed RF front-end system-on-package (SOP) in a standard multi-layer low temperature co-fired ceramic (LTCC) technology. A compact 14 GHz GaAs MESFET-based transmitter module integrated with an embedded band pass filter was built on LTCC 951AT tapes. The up-converter MMIC integrated with a voltage ...

Broad-Band High-Power Amplifier Using Spatial Power-Combining Technique

High power, broad bandwidth, high linearity, and low noise are among the most important features in amplifier design. The broad-band spatial power-combining technique addresses all these issues by combining the output power of a large quantity of microwave monolithic integrated circuit (MMIC) amplifiers in a broad-band coaxial waveguide environment, while maintaining good linearity and improvin...

A Highly Integrated Ka Band Front-End Receiver

A highly integrated Ka band front-end receiver is presented. The proposed front-end receiver is developed for a Ka band passive imaging system. The design adopts single-stage heterodyne architecture at 2 GHz intermediate frequency (IF). Further, a two-layer planar technology is adopted for compact realization. The top layer of the front-end comprises of two monolithic microwave integrated circu...

Serrodyne Frequency Translator Using a 360 ' Analog CPW MMIC Phase Shifter

A 360" analog CPW MMIC phase shifter is presented for the first time. The compact MMIC employs eight multilayer 3 dB quadrature couplers and was fabricated using low cost GaAs foundry processing techniques. The phase shifter was required to implement a narrow band serrodyne frequency translator at 24 GHz. With an arbitrary, small-shift, frequency translation of +5 KHz, the measured results demo...

Technology developments for a large-format heterodyne MMIC array at W-band

We report on the development of W-band (75–110 GHz) heterodyne receiver technology for large-format astronomical arrays. The receiver system is designed to be both mass producible, so that the designs could be scaled to thousands of receiver elements, and modular. Most of the receiver functionality is integrated into compact monolithic microwave integrated circuit (MMIC) amplifier-based multich...
